What is TEDS?
Benefits, Applications, and TEDS-Compatible Load Cells

Plug-and-Play Functionality That Makes Sensor Setup Simple and Reliable

By combining a TEDS-enabled load cell with a TEDS-compatible indicator, sensitivity and calibration information stored in the load cell can be automatically read by the indicator, simplifying setup before measurement.

What is TEDS?

TEDS stands for Transducer Electronic Data Sheet. It is a technology that stores sensor-specific information electronically in memory embedded within the sensor. The TEDS data format is standardized according to the international standard IEEE 1451.4.

“TEAC was the first company in Japan to obtain a Manufacturer ID for TEDS in 2003. Worldwide, TEAC was the 16th company to be registered (with more than 100 registered manufacturers today).Manufacturer ID: 32”

Benefits of TEDS-Enabled Load Cells

1. Reduces Input Errors During Setup
TEDS minimizes the need to manually enter sensitivity and calibration values from a calibration certificate, helping prevent reading and typing errors.
2. Simplifies Sensor Replacement
When a TEDS-enabled load cell is replaced, the indicator automatically reads the sensor information stored in the load cell. If the indicator is set to automatic mode, reconnecting the load cell and powering on the system will reload the sensitivity data automatically.
3. Configuration Without Calibration Certificates
Since sensitivity data is stored directly in the load cell memory, setup can be completed without manually referring to calibration certificates.
4. Improves Maintenance Efficiency
TEDS reduces the need to search for instruction manuals or calibration documents during maintenance and troubleshooting. It is particularly useful for equipment with integrated load cells.
5. Supports Maintenance at Overseas Plants and Remote Locations
When load-cell-equipped machinery is used at overseas facilities or remote sites, confirming calibration certificates and setup parameters can be time-consuming. With TEDS, sensitivity information can be read directly by compatible devices, making local setup and sensor replacement faster and easier.

TEAC TEDS-Compatible Products

For TEAC strain-gauge load cells, platform scales, and pressure transducers, models with"(T)" in the model number are TEDS-compatible.

Standard Model:TC-□□-G
TEDS-Compatible Model:TC-□□(T)-G
Actual model designations may vary depending on the product series. Please refer to the specification page of each product.
Most TEAC load cells support TEDS standardization.

Equipment Required to Use TEDS

To utilize automatic TEDS data retrieval, both the sensor and the connected instrument must support TEDS. Even if TEDS information is stored in the sensor, automatic configuration cannot be used if the connected indicator does not support TEDS reading.

Important Notes
TEAC TEDS-compatible products support the IEEE 1451.4 Class 2 Mixed-Mode Interface.
When extending cables or modifying wiring, use dedicated TEDS-compatible cables.
Do not use TEDS wiring as remote sense wiring. Depending on cable length, resistance compensation may be required.
TEDS is not supported in applications where multiple load cells are connected in parallel (summed output).
For detailed wiring and calibration procedures, refer to the product instruction manual.
